Artisan Farmers’ Markets Helps Catapult New Vendor, “gene and grace” within Vancouver’s North Shore Marketplace

It all Starts with a First Step

Taking that first step to launch one of gene and grace’s signature products at the Artisan Farmers’ Markets on the North Shore set off a chain of events that has catapulted its profile within Vancouver’s North Shore marketplace.

An Emphasis on Recycling and Re-purposinggene and grace develops and manufactures fashion & décor accessories

gene and grace develops and manufactures fashion & décor accessories in the designer’s signature style of simplicity through geometry and drama through colour & contrast. The company’s emphasis is to recycle materials, re-purpose everyday objects, re-imagine existing fashion accessories by up-cycling them and to seek opportunities for multi-functionality.

As a first-time vendor at the Ambleside market, designer Layla chose to feature one product line exclusively, being her statement brooches; her intention was to re-introduce this passe accessory as avant-garde and, consequently, fashion forward.  The enthusiastic response she experienced from shoppers encouraged her to book all available dates at Lonsdale Quay and Ambleside for the rest of the summer.

Invitations to Great Gifts and Harmony Arts Festival’s Art Beat

A significantly exciting outcome as well was to receive an invitation to apply to participate in the popular Great Gifts holiday gift sale this fall, known for featuring the most unique locally-handcrafted products. The appeal for them was that they perceived the pins as individual work of art and appreciated that they were made with recycled and repurposed materials.

This concept of the brooches as art then prompted Layla to present them as such and she was soon invited to feature her artwork at Stittgen Fine Jewelry as part of the 2018 Harmony Arts Festival’s Art Beat. This opportunity arose as a direct result of marketing efforts to drive visitation to her booth at the Ambleside and Lonsdale Farmers’ Markets.

What Does the Future Hold in Store?

Over the next few weeks, gene and grace aims to launch additional unique accessories to wear, display or decorate with. Visit her booth at the Artisan Farmers’ Markets this summer to see for yourself, and or to keep in the loop.
