Farmers’ Market Assistant Jobs: One for Ambleside and one for Lonsdale Quay Artisan Farmers Market

AFMS is a non-profit organization with its roots in the community. We  are dedicated to promote local food and help farmers, artisans and local small businesses grow.

AFMS has over 10 years history of connecting farmers and local craftsmen and artisans with urban consumers, educating the public about how and where their food is produced and raising awareness about sustainable alternatives to the industrial food system.

SUMMARY:

AFMS is recruiting a high energy, friendly and customer service focused assistant market manager for all of our markets in the lower mainland. The assistant market manager will work with and report to the market manager. 

The Market Assistant will work on weekend market days and aid in the smooth operation of the market event. They will work directly with the market manager and help manage the volunteers. 

The ideal candidate will be interested in the local food economy, working with small businesses and building their experience working in a management role. 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Facilitate the set up and take down of the Market in a timely professional manner. 
  • Work with Farmers Market Manager to locate signage for the market. 
  • Work with the Farmers Market Manager to train and direct volunteers, assist vendors, and help to run the information booth during the market. 
  • Provide Market information to shoppers and vendors and assists market managers as directed. 
  • Ensure that the market area is safe, clean and signs are clearly followed by shoppers. 
  • Positively represent the Farmers Market Society to the community.
  • Other tasks as directed. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Enjoy working in a fast paced environment, has a passion for local food, and enjoys being outside in all weather conditions
  • A people person with excellent communication abilities and enjoys talking and engaging with others
  • Able to assist with basic administrative tasks 
  • Able to walk with market sign post market signate around the market area 
  • Interest and/or experience in community economic development and is familiar with the not-for- profit sector
  • Self directed, reliable, responsible, and works collaboratively as part of a team
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Can lift up to 20 kg of equipment and can set up a tent. 

BONUS POINTS:

    • Has a van/vehicle to carry and assist with farmers market materials
  • First aid certificate

COMPENSATION

  • This is a part-time position
  • 6-8 hours weekly for duration of the market season
  • $16/hr
